[ Raidou already received a sash and crown from Marcille for his birthday (which, although she hadn't mentioned it, did cost a pretty penny considering the paper shortage), but on the day of, he'll hear the tapping of a little metal beak against his door.

Cashew, a small golden hummingbird, will be carrying two small, cloth-wrapped parcels suspended by its feet in a net of twine. In one is a bar of handmade, lavender-scented soap, and the other is a small box thin butter cookies.

Once the delivery is confirmed, Marcille sends him a text message: ]

I hope you like what I gave you. You should tell me what kind of cookies or presents you like when you have time. I'm sure you'll be busy!

[It certainly had been a whirlwind of a day, with several people reaching out to not just wish Raidou a happy birthday, but deliver gifts. His last birthday at home was the first time he'd ever come close to celebrating it, with a friend demanding he go out for cake at a shop around the corner from the detective agency. That felt so different then, but today was a whole new world.

Raidou is incredibly touched by the gifts left for him. He's gotten more gifts today than he probably has in his entire life back home.]

That was very kind of you. Very thoughtful.
I don't know what to say. Other than thank you, of course.

And also that the cookies were delicious, too.

[What a day. Raidou has gotten more gifts today than he probably has across his entire lifetime. He lead a pretty spartan life back in the Kuzunoha village.]

[Bakugo figured the guy already had cake, and other sweets most likely. But that didn't stop him from plying him with some of his own. They should keep for a while if he wants to save them. Raidou deserved to have a great day, even if it was a busy one. A guy who's never had his birthday celebrated before, today must've been unreal.]

[Well that has to be the least expected question.]

How do you mean? Like when did I say it? Or how?

Oh. Well. It was sort of weird, we both basically asked each other out accidentally. We went in a date then, and it went really well.

I think we both said it to each other on our second date. While we were watching the sunset.

I thought he was sweet, and cute, and kind. So I agreed to the date.

[This is a little tough for him to talk about, he's finding. No one's ever asked him this kinds of feelings before, and they're hard for him to parse. There a bit of a pause.]


Feelings like that difficult for me. A lot are. It's hard for me to say whether or not if I liked him like that before. But in that moment I know I did.

[Raidou's not the only one who has issues with feelings. Bakugo's trademarkedly bad about his own. Recognizing them, admitting them, acting on some of them. He gives Raidou the time he needs.]

You're getting better at your feelings. I know the Capitol said you didn't need them, but they were wrong.

I'm glad he has someone like you.

[So much has changed for Raidou in the last six months that it's staggering for him to think about. He uses to say that nothing about his work and life changes when he got here, but really, that was him just clinging on to his old, familiar life. Everything was different now, but not in a bad way.]

I am working on it, hard as it is.

[Bakugo can somewhat relate to those feelings, but not anywhere near the extent Raidou's gone through. His life as a hero back home and his life as an Outsider here are ironically similar in many ways, despite the lack of school and the kidnapping issue. But adapting to this world, this life... it's happened despite Bakugo's resistance.

Being friends with Raidou is one of those.]
